Visiting Scientist Program
What Is a Visiting Scientist?
A Visiting Scientist is a person possessing unique skill sets, perspectives,
and practical experience that help shape the direction of work within an SEI
technical program. The Visiting Scientist title adds professional stature to
the person doing the work for us.
Designating the Visiting Scientist Title
A person is given the Visiting Scientist title by the program director in
consultation with SEI Human Resources (HR) and with the approval of the
SEI chief operating officer (COO).

SEI Work
SEI areas of work can be described in three categories. There are a great
many opportunities to work with the SEI in each category:
- Management Practices - The ability to effectively manage the acquisition, development, and evolution of software-intensive systems is a critical requirement of SEI stakeholders and thus is emphasized in the SEI program of work.
- Engineering Practices - SEI work in this area aims to improve the ability of software engineers to analyze, predict, and control selected functional and non-functional properties of software systems.
- Acquisition Practices - SEI work in this area is aimed at helping the DoD and other government acquirers make evolutionary and revolutionary improvements in the acquisition of software-intensive systems.
Program Benefits
