SEI Innovation Center

The SEI Innovation Center helps the government stay on the edge of technology. The world is innovating software and information technologies very rapidly and the Center assists the government by identifying, demonstrating, extending and applying emerging software technologies to meet critical government mission needs. We focus on promoting government awareness and knowledge of emerging technologies and their application, and shaping and leveraging academic and industrial research. The Center is part of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), which is a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) run by Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).

Our Work

The SEI Innovation Center seeks improved ways to process and analyze large amounts of information and to support dynamic and evolving applications. We work to answer the question: "How do we bring innovation to real government challenges?" The Center concentrates on understanding the challenges and exploring solutions to government needs through promoting open innovation, conducting technology evaluations, performing technology demonstrations, and supporting technology transition. We work closely with members of the technical staff at SEI, CMU faculty, collaborators at other universities, government labs, and research organizations.

Technical Areas

Since its creation in 2010, the SEI Innovation Center has focused on data-intensive scalable computing, which includes the following technical areas:

  • Heterogeneous High-Performance Cloud Computing
  • Cyber Intelligence (tradecraft, capabilities, and prototyping new analysis methodologies)
  • Adaptive and Autonomous Systems
  • Analytics/Applied Machine Learning
  • Prototype Application Development
  • Data Architectures
  • Human-Information Interaction
