Chief Information Officer
David Thompson serves as the chief information officer (CIO) and is primarily responsible for crafting the SEI's information technology, information assurance, and information security strategies, and for developing the operational structures used to execute those strategies. In addition to the information technology groups, Thompson has executive oversight for a number of operational units, including physical and industrial security, web design and development, public relations, and the SEI’s communication and transition services groups.
Thompson has more than 25 years of experience in IT operations, information security, data center administration, and general operational support. A long-time resident of Western Pennsylvania, Thompson started his career in the banking industry, first in retail banking and then in computing operations. Immediately prior to joining the SEI in 2004, he worked for ALLTEL Information Services (now FIS Global), a leader in financial services technology. While at ALLTEL, Thompson served as a member of the leadership team of one of ALLTEL's three North American data centers. He led the Technology Services Group, and his organization was responsible for the delivery of a range of IT services, including data center operations, systems engineering and administration, information assurance, information security, incident response, change management, database design and administration, data storage management, and capacity and performance planning.
Thompson is a member of AFCEA, IEEE, and ACM. He earned a BA from Cedarville University and an MA from the University of Dayton.
