David Thompson

Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief Information Officer

Key Responsibilities

David Thompson serves as both the deputy Chief of Staff and Chief Information Officer for the SEI. The Office of the Chief of Staff overseas a variety of internal services, including compliance, industrial security, information technology, communications, staff relations, policy development, and community involvement.  As CIO, Thompson is responsible for crafting the SEI's information technology, information assurance, and information security strategies and for developing the operational structures to execute those strategies. 

His principal office is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Professional Background

Thompson has over 20 years of experience in IT operations, information security, and data center administration.

A long-time resident of Western Pennsylvania, Thompson started his career in the local banking industry, first in retail banking and then in computing operations.  Immediately prior to coming to the SEI in 2004, he worked for ALLTEL Information Services (now FIS Global), a leader in financial services technology.  In his last post at ALLTEL, Thompson served as a member of the leadership team of one ALLTEL's three North American data centers.  He led the Technology Services Group, and his organization was responsible for the delivery of a range of IT services, including data center operations, systems engineering and administration, information assurance, information security, incident response, change management, database design and administration, data storage management, and capacity and performance planning.

Professional Memberships and Education

Thompson is a member of AFCEA, IEEE, and ACM. He received his BA from Cedarville University and his MA from the University of Dayton.
