Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute To Host Forum on Ultra-Large-Scale Systems of the Future
The Carnegie Mellon® Software Engineering Institute (SEI) will serve as host for the Strengthening Mid-Atlantic Region for Tomorrow (SMART) forum that will highlight what the future holds for software-intensive systems called ultra-large-scale (ULS) systems. Is the software community ready to tackle ULS systems? Will incremental changes in our current software development and management practices be enough?
This forum will bring together experts involved in a ULS system study led by the SEI in 2006 under the direction of SEI Program Director Linda Northrop to address these questions. The SEI will share the findings from the study, initially funded by the U.S. Army (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics), that advance an aggressive research agenda to prepare both government and industry for dealing with the systems of the future that will push far beyond the scale of today's by every measure.

About the SMART Conference
The SMART initiative is the integration of regional Science & Technology activities for issues, events & projects among the SMART Congressional Caucus (41 Representatives & 8 Senators), Federal Executive Branch HQs, the four State governments (Executive & Legislative branches of DE, MD, NJ & PA) and the collective weight of the regional tech community facilitated by SMART, a temporary NFP company. SMART is a national model for addressing efficient regional solutions for national and international S&T issues.
