SEPM Certificate Programs
The SEI offers four SEPM certificate programs: SEI Certificate in Software Engineering Process Management, SEI Certificate in Software Process Improvement Implementation, SEI Certificate in CMMI®, and SEI Certificate in Personal Software Process for CMMI.
SEI Certificate in Software Engineering Process Management
This certificate program provides managers with an overview of process improvement. The courses in the program explore management, metrics, and Personal Software ProcessSM (PSPSM) and Team Software ProcessSM (TSPSM) approaches to process improvement. Designed for managers who need a "toolbox" of various approaches to managing and improving the software engineering process, this certificate program helps them develop the knowledge and skills they need to lay a solid foundation in process improvement.
Participants must complete the following courses to earn this certificate:
- Introduction to CMMI
- Managing Technological Change
- Implementing Goal-Driven Measurement
- Analyzing Project Management Indicators
- Introduction to Personal Process or Leading a Development Team
SEI Certificate in Software Process Improvement Implementation
This certificate program for those leading change efforts within their organizations provides a look at several different methods for implementing change, including IDEALSM, metrics, and TSP/PSP. This program will provide change agents (such as SEPG members and leads) with the information they need if their organizations are planning to implement quality initiatives, such as CMMI.
Participants must complete the following courses to earn this certificate:
- CMMI-Based Process Improvement Overview
- One of the following:
- Mastering Process Improvement
- Introduction to Personal Process
- Leading a Development Team
- Analyzing Project Management Indicators
SEI Certificate in CMMI
Using CMMI, organizations can improve their ability to develop and maintain quality products and services. The SEI Certificate in CMMI guides change agents and managers through the fundamental concepts of CMMI, the relationships among CMMI model components, and the development of an effective process improvement program that incorporates CMMI. Also covered are the IDEAL model (a high-level description of the phases of process improvement) and the use of statistical process control to manage and improve software processes.
Engineers who complete this program will only have to take two additional courses to earn their Certificate in Personal Software Process for CMMI.
Participants must complete the following courses to earn this certificate:
- Introduction to CMMI
- Mastering Process Improvement
- Intermediate Concepts
of CMMI
(includes test required for successful completion) - Understanding CMMI High Maturity Practices or Improving Process Performance Using Six Sigma
SEI Certificate in Personal Software Process for CMMI
A high-performance software organization requires high-performance teams, staffed with high-performance software engineers. The Personal Software Process (PSP) provides a roadmap for organizations and individuals to follow on this road to high performance.
While CMMI provides a powerful improvement framework that helps organizations understand what they need to do to improve their processes, it doesn’t specify how they should do it. This certificate program helps engineers learn how to implement CMMI using the PSP.
Participants must complete the following courses to earn this certificate:
- Introduction to CMMI
- PSP for Engineers I: Planning
- PSP for Engineers II: Quality
- Intermediate Concepts
of CMMI
(includes test required for successful completion) - Understanding CMMI High Maturity Practices or Improving Process Performance Using Six Sigma
