SEI Software Architecture Technology User Network (SATURN) Workshop

SATURN 08 logoThe Software Architecture Technology User Network (SATURN) Workshops brought together engineers, architects, technical managers, and product managers to exchange best practices in developing and acquiring software architectures and using them to build predictably high-quality systems. Methods and techniques1 include the Quality Attribute Workshop (QAW), Attribute-Driven Design (ADD), Active Reviews for Intermediate Designs (ARID), the Architecture Trade-Off Analysis Method (ATAM), the Cost-Benefit Analysis Method (CBAM), the Views and Beyond (V&B) approach to documentation, and software architecture reconstruction.

Workshop participants were invited to discuss the challenges they faced in meeting quality attribute requirements, predicting quality attribute behavior, and making practical and informed tradeoffs early. The SATURN Workshops provided a unique opportunity for participants to learn from each other about how to make progress towards the common goal of using effective software architecture practices across the life cycle to ensure predictable product qualities, cost, and schedule. They also provided an opportunity to give feedback to the SEI about promising future directions in software architecture technology and practices.
