Description
This briefing is designed for senior acquisition and procurement professionals who want to learn about the challenges and opportunities encountered when incorporating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products into software-intensive systems.
Attendees know how to manage traditional development programs; this briefing emphasizes differences in managing COTS-based systems. The presentation covers fundamental definitions, and major actions necessary for success with COTS-based systems, and then concludes with recommendations.
The goal is to heighten the awareness of senior executives about the business, contractual, and engineering issues associated with the acquisition and procurement of COTS-based software-intensive systems.
The presenters deliver a stand-up presentation, invite questions and answers, and facilitate discussion as time allows.
To encourage interaction and participation, attendees are limited to 25.
Materials
Materials that accompany the briefing will help participants to apply the concepts in their programs. They include reference materials and guides for actions executives can take themselves, plus items and actions to look for in programs they manage.
Availability and Schedule
COTS-Based Systems for Executives is offered on demand at customer sites. The two-and-a-half hour briefing scheduled by arrangement with customers. Participants who want time for fuller discussion may wish to schedule for additional time.
Prerequisites
Participants should be senior executives of multiple programs and be familiar with acquisition or procurement. It is helpful if attendees are comfortable with DoD terminology.
