Lesson CM1: COTS products introduce a whole new set of configuration management challenges.

Configuration management (CM) is still necessary for COTS-based systems (contrary to some opinions and assumptions!). Everything you needed to do for custom-developed system configuration management still applies, but there are additional responsibilities that CM needs to take on for COTS-based systems.
