COTS-Based Systems Lessons Learned Web Pages
This Web site was created to help you succeed in your endeavors with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products. Since it was established in 1997, our COTS team has worked with organizations in their integration of COTS products. We have studied which practices bring success and the ways in which they often differ from traditional successful practices.
Our customer organizations have often requested that we make our findings accessible. As a result, we have gathered a whole Web site of lessons covering a wide range of organizational activities.
We hope these lessons will raise your awareness as you embark on and continue your COTS efforts. They describe what to plan for and look out for, based on the positive and negative experiences of others.
Whether you are an experienced COTS practitioner or contemplating your first involvement with COTS products, you will benefit from these findings.
Our lessons span many different areas. You can read a description of the way these lessons are organized, or review brief explanations of each category.
Please note that the lessons don't attempt to give instructional detail about how to do something the right way. For that information, you'll want to go to the main COTS-based systems page, and follow links to your area of interest. You can also find material on topics of your choice by using our publications search page.
To go directly to the lessons, select a category on the navigation bar on the left, or from the navigation bar below.
