4. Complete training

After your candidacy has been approved, you must successfully complete the CERT-RMM Capability Appraisal Boot Camp. This two-day course provides an overview of the CERT-RMM Capability Appraisal Method, which addresses the application of the assessment method for the CERT® Resilience Management Model (CERT-RMM) v1.0. Individuals seeking to become SEI-certified CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers must complete this course as part of their certification requirements. The CERT-RMM Capability Appraisal Method (CAM) is a diagnostic tool that can be used to determine an organization's capability for managing operational resilience. It is a tailored version of the SCAMPI appraisal method that addresses the unique challenges of appraising capability using CERT-RMM in the operations phase of the life cycle. Because CERT-RMM has only a continuous representation, the method focuses on helping organizations gain insight into their process capability by identifying process strengths and weaknesses as related to the best practices contained in CERT-RMM.

5. Complete CERT-RMM Lead Appraiser apprentice program

Apprenticeship training is a method that combines field experience, mentorship, and classroom instruction to result in specific usable skills and knowledge for leading CERT-RMM capability appraisals. An objective of the training is to provide the community with CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers who are competent and capable to lead an appraisal, who excel at exercising independent judgment, and who subscribe to the highest standards of professional conduct. The apprenticeship arrangement is based on a written agreement between the apprentice, the sponsor, and the SEI, acknowledging a joint commitment to the training and development process. The CERT-RMM apprenticeship program will provide a vehicle to train and qualify professionals to become CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers — experts in assessing and benchmarking RMM Apprenticeship Program require that CERT-organizations' Lead Appraisers must apply practices that can:

  • be repeatable
  • provide objective proof of the achievement of specific and generic goals and performance of specific practices in a process area
  • support internally or externally led appraisals
  • be suitable for deriving and supporting capability level ratings
  • provide high-quality results that can be substantiated

The CERT-RMM LA Apprenticeship Program is designed to

  • Provide career advancement opportunities for individuals who have the requisite background knowledge and skills
  • Improve understanding of implementing and sustaining practices to improve the operational resilience of organizations
  • Develop skills to lead CERT-RMM appraisals and improvement efforts in an organization
  • Provide for skill improvement through continuing education and renewal activities
  • Establish the initial group of CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers, thereby increasing market availability of appraisal and improvement services based on the model
  • Establish a community of CERT-RMM experts who can share experience and be involved in improvements to the CERT-RMM product suite, including the opportunity to pilot new elements of the product suite as they are developed

An RMM LA Apprenticeship guide is available for reference to describe the process, procedures, and steps necessary to successfully complete the program. If at any time your performance during qualification is unsatisfactory, the SEI will provide you with feedback and, if necessary, steps for remediation. Should any additional SEI support be required to mentor or review remedial work, that work will be billed to the sponsoring SEI Partner in accordance with the sponsoring SEI RMM LA Mentor and RMM LA Review Board approves your performance during the apprenticeship phase, your certification will be granted by the SEI. Upon successfully completing the steps outlined above you will receive a certification diploma. You will then be listed in the SEI Partner Directory. SEI-Certified CERT-Partners Lead Appraisers may conduct survey events only on behalf of an SEI Partner. SEI-Certified CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers cannot use the materials to deliver CERT-RMM services independently or on behalf of organizations that are not licensed by RMM/SEI.
