Become an SEI-Certified Services Supplement for CMMI for Development Instructor

Services Supplement for CMMI for Development Instructors teach a one-day course that introduces service providers, appraisal team members, and process group members to fundamental CMMI concepts as related to service delivery. The CMMI for Services (CMMI-SVC) model defines effective practices that ensure quality services are delivered to customers and end users. Services that can benefit from using CMMI for Services include operations, logistics, maintenance, IT, and many other services in government and industry. The Services Supplement for CMMI for Development course is composed of lectures and class exercises with instructors fielding questions and facilitating discussions. 

Steps for Becoming Certified

Prerequisites

To begin the instructor certification process, candidates and their sponsoring organizations (SEI Partners) must complete the following prerequisites:

  • The candidate's organization must have a fully executed CMMI Product Suite License agreement for the delivery of the Services Supplement for CMMI for Development course.
  • The candidate must be an SEI-Certified Introduction to CMMI for Development V1.3 Instructor in good standing
  • Documentation demonstrating that the candidate satisfies the selection criteria below

Steps

  1. Application for Candidate Sponsorship

    

SEI Partners must recommend candidates to the SEI by submitting a completed SEI Partner sponsorship form for the applicant.

  2. Instructor Resume

    Applicants must submit a resume to the SEI showing that they fulfill the following instructor selection criteria. Submit via email to cmmi-svc-app@sei.cmu.edu:

    • Five years of experience in a service delivery environment showing clear evidence of expertise in at least two areas from the list below:
      • Capacity and Availability Management
      • Incident Resolution and Prevention
      • Service Continuity Planning
      • Service Delivery
      • Service Systems Development and Implementation
      • Service Management
    • Two of the five years of experience must be in service management

    Applicants will receive email notification of the decision of the Application Review committee. At the SEI's discretion, an additional interview may be conducted to ensure the applicant has the necessary CMMI for Services model knowledge. After the resume is approved, the applicant will be considered a candidate.

  3. Training 



    Candidates are required to successfully complete the one-day Services Supplement for CMMI for Development course from the SEI or an SEI Partner.

  4. Qualification Exam



    Candidate instructors are required to pass the CMMI for Services examination.

  5. Readiness Review

    Instructors will also complete a readiness review (downloadable from the SEI Partner Resource Center). After you successfully complete the previous qualification steps, send an email to CMMIServicesInstructor-Info@sei.cmu.edu to gain access to the readiness review.

  6. Certified Instructor

    

Upon completing the steps listed above, the certification will be granted by the SEI. Successful candidates will receive a certification diploma and will be listed in the SEI Partner Directory. SEI-Certified Services Supplement for CMMI v1.2 instructors can use the CMMI instructional materials located in the SEI Partner Resource Center. The sponsoring SEI Partner shall ensure that candidate instructors have completed the instructor certification process before participating in formal course offerings. 



    SEI-Certified Services Supplement for CMMI v1.2 instructors may teach the course only on behalf of an SEI Partner. SEI-Certified Services Supplement for CMMI Instructors cannot use the materials to deliver courses independently or on behalf of organizations that are not licensed by CMU/SEI to deliver CMMI v1.2 Product Suite.
