The SEI offers the following SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Certifications:
SEI-Certified SCAMPI Lead Appraiser for Development
SEI-Certified SCAMPI Lead Appraiser for Acquisition
SEI-Certified SCAMPI Lead Appraiser for Services
SEI-Certified High Maturity Lead Appraiser
SEI-Certified SCAMPI Lead Appraisers (SCAMPI LAs) lead trained teams of professionals in the appraisal of one or more CMMI process areas (using information collected from presentations, documents, and interviews) to determine an organization's process capability and/or maturity level.
As was announced in October 2008, all authorized and candidate SCAMPI Lead Appraisers have until October 31, 2009 to complete their transition from Authorization to Certification.
The following checklist may help you plan your path toward certification. You will need to
Maintain your SCAMPI LA authorization in good standing with no COPC issues or overdue fees.
Sign and return the certification agreement either by email to certification-info@sei.cmu.edu or by fax to 412-268-5758, Attn: Certification Team. This agreement requires a one-time only signature and applies to all certifications administered by the SEI. This form applies to all SEI certifications, so there is no need to submit more than one for all of your SEI credentials.
Pass the SCAMPI LA Certification exam. The exam is available via Kryterion testing centers and at SEI sponsored events, including the 7th Annual CMMI Workshop in Orlando. You will be able to register for your exam by first creating an account through the SEI Certification Program portal where you will also be able to see a listing of the various testing centers and the exams’ availability in each. The workshop exam details have not yet been finalized, but we hope to announce the exam schedule very soon.
In the event a currently authorized SCAMPI Lead Appraiser does not complete the requirements for the transition from authorization to certification, he/she will be placed on Inactive Status as of November 1, 2009.
An SEI Authorized SCAMPI Lead Appraiser on Inactive status
will have their SCAMPI Lead Appraiser status removed from the SEI Partner Directory
will no longer have access to the SEI Partner Resource Center
will not be able to submit new appraisals into the SEI Appraisal System (SAS) as of November 1, 2009. Appraisals that were started onsite prior to November 1, 2009 will be accepted into the system.
SCAMPI Lead Appraisers who enter an Inactive Status on November 1, 2009 will have 6 months (or until the expiration of their normal 3 year renewal cycle, whichever comes first) to complete the transition from authorization to certification, or until March 31, 2010.
SCAMPI Lead Appraisers who do not complete the transition to certification by March 31, 2010 will be required to re-attend and successfully complete the SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training (SLAT). All post course steps toward earning certification will also be required as outlined on the SEI web site. Candidates must be approved by the SEI Appraisal Program in order to enter this qualification track.
Who is a SCAMPI Lead Appraiser?
An SEI-Certified SCAMPI Lead Appraiser uses the Standard CMMI® Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) method V1.2.
The SCAMPI A, B, and C methods are diagnostic tools that support, enable, and encourage an organization's commitment to process improvement. The methods help organizations gain insight into their process capability or organizational maturity by identifying process strengths and weaknesses as related to the best practices of one or more CMMI models. SCAMPI A V1.2 is the method of choice for benchmarking.
