Computer Security Incident Handler Certification Advisory Board

The Advisory Board for the Computer Security Incident Handler (CSIH) Certification oversees aspects of the certification program including entry, qualification, renewal, and standards of conduct for certified CSIH professionals. The Board is composed of community and SEI members with experience, knowledge, skill, and education in the computer security field.

Mission Statement

The CSIH Advisory Board provides unbiased direction for the CSIH certification program policies and processes, sets certification standards, monitors fair practices, and promotes recognition of those Computer Security Incident Handlers who have met the standards for professional certification. The CSIH Advisory Board has the governance authority to propose, implement, and modify policies and procedures that will protect against undue influence that could compromise the integrity of the certification process.  The board also oversees the development and administration of certifications, and ensures that the credentials meet high standards of ethical and professional practice for the computer security industry.

Advisory Board Functions

The CSIH Advisory Board shall

  • oversee certification policies, schema components, and overall certification requirements
  • oversee technical and administrative policies to assure the integrity of the certification examination to include examination specifications, scoring, and ongoing maintenance 
  • ensure that professional standards are maintained through quality assurance and compliance activities 
  • establish and maintain policies to ensure maintenance of accreditations 
  • review and provide oversight of operational issues, quality assurance, member compliance, qualification steps, examination appeals, and adverse decisions (including suspension and revocation of certification)


The Advisory Board may designate that sub-committees be formed when necessary to evaluate, design, implement and oversee certain polices as guided by the full board.

Advisory Board Composition

The CSIH Advisory Board consists of 12 members. The initial Advisory Board panel was composed from volunteers in the community who met certain criteria to participate. Board members are nominated and confirmed by the CSIH community. 

The Board consists of two categories of membership: voting and non-voting.

Advisory Board Meetings

The Advisory Board will conduct three scheduled meetings per year and unscheduled meetings as called by the Advisory Board Chair or Vice-Chair.
