Mappings of ISO 9001:2000 and CMMI Version 1.1

return to CMMI main page

This mapping between ISO 9001:2000 and CMMI Version 1.1 (PDF) was done by Boris Mutafelija and Harvey Stromberg in July 2003. Comments on the mapping are welcomed by the developers. If you have comments, please send email to Boris Mutafelija mutafelija@systemsandsoftware.org or Harvey Stromberg stromberg@systemsandsoftware.org.

The approach taken to this mapping is explained by it authors this way,

"Each ISO 9001 "shall" statement has been mapped to a CMMI practice, using only the most prominent correspondence. If an ISO "shall" statement strongly maps to a CMMI specific practice, we do not indicate mappings to other specific practices that may show some weaker correspondence. The map thus serves as an indicator of correspondence rather than as an implementation guideline."

For more information about the relationship between ISO 9001:2000 and CMMI, see the book Systematic Process Improvement Using ISO 9001:2000 and CMMI, which was written by the authors of the mapping available here.
