These comparison files were created using DeltaView by Workshare. This product creates

  • redlines that highlight text that was deleted
  • bluelines that highlight text that was added
  • greenlines that highlight text that was moved

General Improvements in CMMI-DEV, V1.2

The CMMI version 1.2 product suite release includes the following improvements:

  • Model Improvements
  • SCAMPI Appraisal Method Improvements
  • Training Improvements

Model Improvements

The following model improvements were made in v1.2. For more detail about these improvements, see the Model Changes presentation.

  • Both representations are packaged together.
  • The advanced practice and common feature concepts were eliminated.
  • The generic goal and practice descriptions were moved to Part Two.
  • Hardware amplifications and examples were added.
  • All definitions were consolidated in the glossary.
  • IPPD practices were consolidated and simplified. There are no longer separate IPPD process areas.
  • Supplier Agreement Management (SAM) and Integrated Supplier Management (ISM) were consolidated, and the Supplier Sourcing addition was eliminated.
  • Generic practice (GP) elaborations were added to the level 3 GPs.
  • An explanation of how process areas support the implementation of GPs was added.
  • Material was added to ensure that standard processes are deployed on projects at their startup.

SCAMPI Appraisal Method Improvements

The following SCAMPI Appraisal Method improvements were made in v1.2. For more detail about these improvements, see the SCAMPI A Appraisal Method Changes presentation.

  • The requirement for instruments (e.g., surveys) was removed.
  • Guidance on how to characterize alternative practices was added.
  • Limits were set for the maximum length of appraisals.
  • Requirements for sampling and incremental appraisals were added.
  • The scope of readiness reviews was expanded to include the readiness of the organization, the team, and logistics.
  • The appraisal sponsor's signature is now required on the Appraisal Disclosure Statement.
  • The validity of appraisal results is now limitied to a maximum of three years.

Training Improvements

The following training improvements were made in v1.2. For more detail about these improvements, see the Training Changes presentation.

  • The course materials were updated to reflect the changes in CMMI models and the appraisal method.
  • The clarity and consistency of the course materials was improved.
