How do I become trained in CMMI v1.2?

If you have never taken an Introduction to CMMI course, you should take the Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course. If you have taken an Introduction to CMMI (v1.1 or earlier) course and want to be upgraded to v1.2, you can register for and complete CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training. If you intend to participate in a SCAMPI appraisal or attend advanced CMMI training, you must complete upgrade training.

What is CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training?

CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training is a self-paced, online course containing materials that describe the improvements that are in CMMI v1.2. It also contains additional material, including a review of CMMI concepts. To take the online course, you must have taken a previous version of an SEI-authorized Introduction to CMMI course.

How do I complete CMMI v1.2 Upgrade Training?

You can register for the CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training at http://www.sei.cmu.edu/products/courses/p57.html. Once registered, you should review the course slides. After you have finished reviewing the course slides, you will be asked to submit an online completion form. Completion of this form places you on the SEI CMMI v1.2 training registry and allows you to participate in a SCAMPI appraisal or attend advanced CMMI training.

What is the difference between the presentations about CMMI v1.2 changes available on the SEI Web site and the CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training?

The presentations about CMMI v1.2 changes, available at CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training contains the CMMI v1.2 update material and additional material that includes more detailed information about the differences between v1.1 and v1.2 and a review of CMMI concepts related to the model and appraisal methods. If you have taken an SEI-authorized Introduction to CMMI (v1.1 or earlier) course, you must register for and complete the CMMI v1.2 Upgrade Training course before you can be a SCAMPI v1.2 appraisal team member or attend advanced CMMI training courses.

If I take CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training and then take CMMI Version 1.2 Instructor Training or one of the CMMI v1.2 SCAMPI courses, will I then have to take CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training for Instructors and Lead Appraisers?

No. The CMMI v1.2 model will be taught in the CMMI v1.2 advanced courses.

Can people who have only taken Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 (not an upgrade from CMMI v1.1) be members of a SCAMPI v1.1 appraisal team?

No. Because of the differences in the CMMI v1.1 and CMMI v1.2 models and the SCAMPI v1.1 and SCAMPI v1.2 methods, a person who has not taken Introduction to CMMI (v1.1) is not prepared to be a member of a SCAMPI v1.1 appraisal.

Which version of CMMI was taught in my course?

If the CMMI course title did not have "Version 1.2" in it, the course contained concepts from CMMI v1.1 or earlier. Also, any CMMI courses that occurred before August 2006 taught concepts from CMMI v1.1 or earlier.

Can I print the pages of the CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training?

Yes. The CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training includes a PDF download of the entire course that you can print. This download is intended for course attendees only, and you are not permitted to share it with others.

How long does it take to complete CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training?

CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training is an online course that allows you to work at your own pace. You may review all the materials at one sitting or you may choose to do this in several sessions; however, successful completion of the course requires that you review all of the material.
