What CMMI-related training courses does the SEI offer?
The SEI offers a number of courses related to CMMI. The current introductory CMMI course is Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2. Everyone interested in CMMI should take this course.
The Intermediate Concepts of CMMI Version 1.2 course is an advanced course designed for those who wish to become an Introduction to CMMI instructor or SCAMPI Lead Appraiser.
CMMI Version 1.2 Instructor Training is for instructor candidates, and SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training is for SCAMPI Lead Appraiser candidates.
The Understanding CMMI High Maturity Practices course is the definitive source of information about CMMI levels 4 and 5. If your organization is, or plans to be, a high-performance organization that consistently uses high maturity practices, this course is a must.
SEI's process improvement related courses also may be useful as you implement CMMI best practices in your organization, especially if you are new to process improvement. These courses include the following:

What courses provide credit toward becoming an SEI-authorized Introduction to CMMI Instructor or SCAMPI Lead Appraiser and where can I attend such courses?
To become an instructor or Lead Appraiser, you must successfully complete authentic SEI courses. The first prerequisite course for becoming either an instructor or Lead Appraiser is the Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course. This courses is available from SEI Partners (see SEI Partner Network Directory and Guide to Services) or from the SEI. The second prerequisite is the Intermediate Concepts of CMMI Version 1.2 course that is available only from the SEI.
CMMI Version 1.2 Instructor Training is the final course leading to candidacy as an Introduction to CMMI Instructor. After successfully completing this course, the candidate instructor must also be observed, by an authorized SEI Observer, teaching the SEI's Introduction to CMMI V1.2 course. Upon successful completion of the observation, the instructor is then authorized as an Introduction to CMMI Instructor.
SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training is the final course leading to candidacy as a SCAMPI Lead Appraiser. After successfully completing this course, the candidate Lead Appraiser must be observed leading a SCAMPI A appraisal using a CMMI model and be approved by an authorized SEI Observer.

How do I become an authorized instructor for the Introduction to CMMI course?
To become an Introduction to CMMI Instructor, you must successfully complete the CMMI Instructor Training course and receive a satisfactory observation report. The observation report consists of a documented evaluation of your performance as an Introduction to CMMI Instructor.
Prerequisites for being accepted into the CMMI Instructor Authorization Program include the following:
- You must have successfully completed an SEI-authorized offering of a three-day Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course--offered by the SEI and SEI Partners
- You must have successfully completed the Intermediate Concepts of CMMI--offered by the SEI only
- Your organization has applied to become an SEI Partner to deliver CMMI Product Suite services, has been accepted, and has signed the applicable Carnegie Mellon University/SEI agreement (for information on how to become an SEI Partner, visit the SEI Partner Network, http://www.sei.cmu.edu/partners/ on the SEI Web site).
- You have successfully completed the application process to become an Introduction to CMMI Instructor, which includes the following:
- Completion of course registration form
- Submission of the application for candidate sponsorship form (http://www.sei.cmu.edu/partners/forms.html)
- A resume listing teaching and technical experience
- A signed copy of the SEI Code of Professional Conduct Individual Commitment Form (http://www.sei.cmu.edu/partners/forms.html)
CMMI Version 1.2 Instructor Training is the final course leading to candidacy as an Introduction to CMMI Instructor. After successfully completing this course, the candidate instructor must also be observed, by an authorized SEI Observer, teaching the SEI's Introduction to CMMI V1.2 course. Upon successful completion of the observation, the instructor is then authorized as an Introduction to CMMI Instructor.

When will the Introduction to CMMI, Staged Representation and Introduction to CMMI, Continuous Representation courses no longer be offered?
As of December 31, 2005, offerings of the Introduction to CMMI, Staged Representation and Introduction to CMMI, Continuous Representation courses are no longer available from the SEI or SEI Partners.

The Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course is designed to be taught with the CMMI-DEV Version 1.2 technical report or the CMMI: Guidelines for Process Integration and Product Improvement, 2nd edition book.

Is the Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course designed to be taught in three days?
The Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course is designed to be taught in three days. This course is three full days, and class participants should not plan to leave before 5:00 p.m. on the third day. The exercises can be tailored to meet the needs of the participants and time constraints.

Can I modify the Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course to teach only the staged or continuous representation?
No. The Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course is designed to be used to teach both representations.

Can I tailor the Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course exercises?
The design for each exercise includes alternatives for conducting the exercise. You should only use the alternatives stated in the exercises.
