Sunset of the Software Acquisition Capability Maturity Model (SA-CMM)

return to CMMI main page

February 6, 2008

The sunsetting period for the Software Acquisition Capability Maturity Model® (SA-CMM®) Version 1.03 began on November 1, 2007 with the release of the CMMI for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ), Version 1.2 model. Training for the CMMI-ACQ model is currently available in the form of a one-day CMMI Acquisition Supplement for Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2. SCAMPI A appraisals using the CMMI-ACQ model with a start date of May 1, 2008 or later will be accepted by the SEI.

CMMI-ACQ provides guidance to acquisition organizations for initiating and managing the acquisition of products and services that meet the needs of the customer. The model focuses on acquirer processes and integrates bodies of knowledge that are essential for successful acquisitions.

To allow SA-CMM users a reasonable amount of time to upgrade to CMMI-ACQ, the measured approach of a sunset period will be used for retiring the SA-CMM model, training, and appraisal materials. This sunset period will end on December 31, 2008.

Training Course
The Introduction to Software Acquisition CMM training course has been retired and it has been replaced by the above supplement.

Appraisals
Assessment results using the SA-CMM will expire 3 years after the on-site period start date. All SA-CMM assessment results will expire on December 31, 2008.
