CMMI for Development Version 1.2 - Release Notes
August 25, 2006
CMMI for Development, Version 1.2 is an upgrade of CMMI-SE/SW/IPPD/SS, Version 1.1. The name of the model has changed to reflect the more comprehensive coverage of product development within the model and because of an update to the CMMI architecture to include the concept of CMMI "constellations." A constellation is a set of CMMI components designed to meet the needs of a specific area of interest. A constellation can produce one or more related CMMI models and related appraisal and training materials.
CMMI for Development is the first such constellation and represents the Development area of interest. Even though there are two models that comprise the CMMI for Development constellation, there is only one PDF file that contains both the CMMI for Development and CMMI for Development +IPPD models.
Unlike CMMI version 1.1, there is but a single model document that describes both the staged and continuous representations versus the prior use of separate documents for each representation.
The following list is a summary of some of the significant changes that were made for CMMI for Development, Version 1.2:
- The advanced practice and common feature concepts were eliminated.
- The generic goal and practice descriptions were moved to Part Two.
- Hardware amplifications and examples were added.
- All definitions were consolidated in the glossary.
- IPPD practices were consolidated and simplified. There are no longer separate IPPD process areas.
- Supplier Agreement Management (SAM) and Integrated Supplier Management (ISM) were consolidated. The Supplier Sourcing addition was eliminated.
- An explanation of how process areas support the implementation of GPs was added.
- Material was added to ensure that standard processes are deployed to new projects at their startup.
