Interpreting the Mapping Tables

return to CMMI main page

The mapping tables were created to allow you to understand the relationship between CMMI and other documents. Each of the mappings is provided from two perspectives: CMMI mapped to the document and the document mapped to CMMI. This will allow the user of the mappings to select the mapping oriented to the document that he/she is most familiar.

The documents being mapped to CMMI only contain the equivalence of the required and expected material. They do not typically describe the relationships that include subpractices, notes, and other informative material.

The strength of the relationship between the documents is highlighted in red, yellow, green, and black and this information is also presented in a separate column in case the color-coding is not visible.

A strong relationship is indicated by green shading and an s and describes a relationship where there is a one to one relationship to the material in both documents.

Partial coverage is indicated by yellow shading and a w and describes a relationship where there is less than a one to one relationship.

No coverage is indicated by red shading and an n and describes where there is no relationship to the other document.

Relationships with generic practices are indicated in black and a g to describe this special type of relationship. Comments are optional and are provided to explain specific relationships.

Where acronyms are used in the mappings, please refer to the acronym lists in the source documents for explanations of the acronyms.
