How does the release of CMMI Version 1.3 affect me?

How does this release affect appraisals?

Organizations may continue to use CMMI V1.2 for their appraisals until November 30, 2011 (except for appraisals dependent on SEI-sanctioned foreign translations). Organizations may continue to use Version 1.2 of the SCAMPI Method until March 31, 2012.

The following chart shows the final dates that the on-site periods must begin for appraisals using particular model and method versions:

CMMI Version 1.2 Model CMMI Version 1.3 Model
SCAMPI Method Version 1.2 November 30, 2011 March 31, 2012

How can I learn about the changes in the SCAMPI Version 1.3 method?

Is my CMMI Version 1.2 appraisal still valid?

The sunsetting of V1.2 does not affect the validity of a V1.2 appraisal in which the appraisal on-site period (i.e., when the appraisal team visits the site to be appraised to begin evaluation of processes) begins before the sunset date. All V1.2 appraisals must have an on-site period beginning before November 30, 2011. Appraisals are valid for three years.

How soon can I get an appraisal using the CMMI Version 1.3 model?

Appraisals using the CMMI Version 1.3 model and the SCAMPI Method Version 1.2 can be scheduled today. (Appraisals must be scheduled 30 days in advance.) Appraisals using the SCAMPI Method Version 1.3 cannot be done until the selected lead appraiser completes method upgrade training.

How soon can I get an appraisal based on the SCAMPI Version 1.3 method?

Remember that lead appraisers can already conduct appraisals using CMMI V1.3, but based on SCAMPI V1.2. Before performing a SCAMPI V1.3 appraisal, a lead appraiser must complete the SCAMPI V1.3 Upgrade Training and pass the upgrade examination. The SCAMPI V1.3 Upgrade Training and exam are available online. Appraisals can take place 30 days after the lead appraiser has completed SCAMPI upgrade training and passes the exam.
