Authorization is accomplished by either holding a valid authorization as Instructor of Introduction to CMMI Version 1.1, taking CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training Lead Appraisers, and Team Leaders and passing the CMMI Version 1.2 Examination for Instructors, http://www.sei.cmu.edu/training/certificates/sepm/index.cfm or by directly earning authorization as Instructor of Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2.
2. Prior to the delivery of the course, each student of the Partner offering of instructor-led “CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training” is required to hold a valid account in “CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training”. Persons qualified to take the course acquire a personal account by registering at the SEI web site. Students in “CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training”, including students in your instructor-led sessions, may pay the SEI directly.

Rights Accruing to the SEI, CMMI Partner

1. Partners will be permitted to hold instructors-led offerings of “CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training”.
2. Partners will be permitted to advertise these instructor-led course offerings as SEI authorized, instructor-led “CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training”.
3. Partners may charge such fees as they choose to the students attending Partner instructor-led offerings of “CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training”. Partners will have no financial obligation to the SEI because students will have already paid the SEI through the course registration process (see Obligation #2).

Course Completion and the CMMI v1.2 Training Registry

Students must log into “CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training” online and complete the form found at the Course Completion module link for individuals to have their names placed on the CMMI v1.2 Training Registry and thereby enjoy the benefits of participation on v1.2 SCAMPI appraisals and admission into advanced training. No other reporting mechanisms will be used.

If you have never taken an Introduction to CMMI course, you should take the Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 course. If you have taken an Introduction to CMMI (v1.1 or earlier) course and want to be upgraded to v1.2, you can register for and complete CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training. You can register for the CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training. Once registered, you should review the course slides. After you have finished reviewing the course slides, you will be asked to submit an online completion form. Completion of this form places you on the SEI CMMI v1.2 training registry and allows you to participate in a SCAMPI appraisal or attend advanced CMMI training.

CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training is an online course that allows you to work at your own pace. You may review all the materials at one sitting or you may choose to do this in several sessions; however, successful completion of the course requires that you review all of the material.

The CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training will be available until at least 12/31/2007.

 With the release of v1.2, there is a three-year maximum period of validity for SCAMPI Class A appraisals. Three years after the appraisal end date, the appraisal results will expire and become invalid based on age; however, an appraisal can become invalid for other reasons (e.g., an improper application of SCAMPI). Version 1.1 SCAMPI Class A appraisals will expire August 31, 2007 or three years after their appraisal end date, whichever is later.

The release of CMMI v1.2 includes improvements to all parts of the CMMI Product Suite in response to issues that have emerged in practice. The changes focus on improving the quality of CMMI products and the consistency of how they are applied.

CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training is a self-paced, online course containing materials that describe the improvements that are in CMMI v1.2. It also contains additional material, including a review of CMMI concepts. To take the online course, you must have taken a previous version of an SEI-authorized Introduction to CMMI course.

The presentations about CMMI v1.2 changes, available at CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training contains the CMMI v1.2 update material and additional material that includes more detailed information about the differences between v1.1 and v1.2 and a review of CMMI concepts related to the model and appraisal methods. With the release of version 1.2 of the CMMI Product Suite, significant changes were made to policies governing the conduct and reporting of SCAMPI Class A appraisals. Information about these changes is available.

The CMMI v1.2 Upgrade Examination will be offered through a variety of delivery methods, which include testing centers, SEI facilities, and scheduled conferences and events.  Any SCAMPI appraisal, whether v1.1 or v1.2, with its on-site period beginning on or after November 1, 2006, must use the v1.2 Appraisal Disclosure Statement (ADS). The ADS has been expanded significantly to provide more insight into an appraisal.

 For US Defense business organizations, any SCAMPI Class A v1.2 appraisal that will become public record or used in a proposal in response to U.S. Department of Defense requirements must be posted on the SEI's PARS site.
