Yes. Lead Appraisers must complete the training and take the exam before the workshop, but they do not have to pass the exam. If they fail the exam before the workshop, they will be allowed to attend the workshop, but they will have to pass the exam at a later date to complete the upgrade.
- Are there any mini-update appraisals to upgrade a SCAMPI v1.1 appraisal to a SCAMPI v1.2 appraisal (model or method)?
No. A complete SCAMPI v1.2 appraisal, with the CMMI v1.2 model and SCAMPI v1.2 method, must be completed.

As a candidate who has taken the CMMI Instructor Training (v1.1) or SCAMPI (v1.1) course, you are eligible for the CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training for Instructors, Lead Appraisers, and Team Leaders and the CMMI v1.2 Upgrade Examination. Candidate appraisers also must attend the SCAMPI v1.2 Lead Appraiser Face-to-Face Meeting. After fulfilling these requirements you will be able to complete the authorization process and be authorized to use CMMI v1.2.
As a candidate who has taken Intermediate Concepts of CMMI (v1.1), but will be taking CMMI v1.2 Instructor Training or SCAMPI v1.2 course, you must successfully complete CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade Training before taking the Instructor Training or SCAMPI Training course.
- Can a Lead Appraiser in an organization perform an v1.2 appraisal in that organization?
All Class A SCAMPI v1.2 appraisals that will become public record (e.g., announced in a press release or on an organization's Web site, or posted on a published SCAMPI appraisals results Web page) or used in a proposal in response to U.S. Department of Defense requirements must be led by an SEI-authorized SCAMPI Lead Appraiser from an external, third-party organization.
The external, third-party organization can be another SEI Partner organization or a separate business unit from the one containing the appraised organization (e.g., from corporate or from a different division, group, or other organizational business type, which is under separate management).

Persons qualified to take the course acquire a personal account by registering

Rights Accruing to the SEI, CMMI Partner
- Partners will be permitted to hold instructors-led offerings of “CMMI

- Partners will be permitted to advertise these instructor-led course
offerings as SEI authorized, instructor-led “CMMI Version 1.2 Upgrade

- Partners may charge such fees as they choose to the students attending

With the release of v1.2, there is a three-year maximum period of validity for SCAMPI Class A appraisals. Three years after the appraisal end date, the appraisal results will expire and become invalid based on age; however, an appraisal can become invalid for other reasons (e.g., an improper application of SCAMPI). Version 1.1 SCAMPI Class A appraisals will expire August 31, 2007 or three years after their appraisal end date, whichever is later.

- When must I start using the CMMI v1.2 ADS?
Any SCAMPI appraisal, whether v1.1 or v1.2, with its on-site period beginning on or after November 1, 2006, must use the v1.2 Appraisal Disclosure Statement (ADS). The ADS has been expanded significantly to provide more insight into an appraisal.

For US Defense business organizations, any SCAMPI Class A v1.2 appraisal that will become public record or used in a proposal in response to U.S. Department of Defense requirements must be posted on the SEI's PARS site.
Although other organizations are not required to post to the SEI's PARS site, they are encouraged to do so.
- Which version of CMMI was taught in my course?
If the CMMI course title did not have "Version 1.2" in it, the course contained concepts from CMMI v1.1 or earlier. Also, any CMMI courses that occurred before August 2006 taught concepts from CMMI v1.1 or earlier.
- Who can lead a high maturity v1.2 appraisal?
