An SEI Affiliate Opportunity
Team: CMMI-Services
Program: Software Engineering Process Management
Team leader: Eileen Forrester
Summary of Opportunity
The SEI and members of the CMMI Product Team from industry, government, and academia have created a set of models that have been widely adopted to aid process improvement for software intensive system development. As work began on a planned minor update to Version 1.2, we realized that other domains of concern to our sponsors and our community could be better addressed with some relatively small adjustments to the CMMI model architecture. Two areas of interest that had been frequently mentioned have now been approved for further development by the multi-organizational CMMI Steering Group: CMMI-Services and CMMI-Acquisition. This project will focus on the services elements, with recognition of the value of maintaining synergy with the other two efforts for development and acquisition.
The goal of the CMMI-Services project is to both adapt the CMMI Framework to service delivery and lead the community toward best practices in service delivery.
The job of the CMMI-Services project is to create a process improvement, CMMI-based model for service delivery, often referred to as a Services constellation, using the CMMI Framework as a baseline. This constellation will allow generation of a tailored road map that can assist organizations in adopting and integrating practices and technologies into their service delivery processes and methods. Creation of the constellation establishes the parameters for characterizing the service delivery dimensions that organizations may use for improving their operations.
The CMMI-Services road map will complement the SEI IDEAL model, and provide structure for organizations to successfully adopt and integrate best practices into their service delivery processes.
Results to be Accomplished
The primary results will be a CMMI-Services constellation incorporating best practices explicitly mapping appropriate technologies to key service delivery processes of an organization. This result must also contain appropriate training material, and be appraisable using SCAMPI methodology.
Potential Affiliates Tasks and Responsibilities
Participate as a team member for design, development, review, and publication of elements of the CMMI-Services constellation (e.g., training and presentation products, guidance for particular services, road map document, model [constellation] document, technology transition plan). Promote CMMI-Services team goals to the community and establish relationships with organizations to provide best practice activities, lessons learned, adherence with regulations and laws, and implementation advice.
This position provides opportunities for collaboration and participation in development of CMMI-Services training modules as well as participation as a team member on CMMI-Services appraisals and client installation of related improvement programs.
