An SEI Affiliate Opportunity
Team: Integration of Software-Intensive Systems (ISIS)
Team leader: Patricia Oberndorf
Summary of Opportunity
The purpose of the ISIS initiative is to identify, mature, and transition (to both the acquisition and development communities) software engineering practices and technologies to accomplish sustainable integration and interoperation across systems of systems. ISIS provides a new and exciting opportunity to work with the SEI on finding solutions to challenging, real-world problems. This program grew out of the former COTS-based systems initiative. The focus is on the creation of such systems from existing components and subsystems, so the work should be viewed as an extension and continuation of the consideration of those issues addressed in the COTS-based systems work.
Through the Affiliate Program, organizations may sponsor individuals to approach this problem set on two levels: either on the level of identifying and exploring the problem space of integration and interoperability or on the level of finding solutions to existant problems within the Affiliate's home organization.
Potential Affiliates Tasks and Responsibilities
ISIS is equally concerned with matters of technology management and technical practice. Potential tasks for Affiliates include:
- Working to determine the scope of the problem space
- Mining experience for lessons learned and possible alternative solutions
- Creating new theoretical approaches to systems of systems interoperability
- Creating new solutions to system integration problems
Affiliates from all areas of the DoD, other government, contractors, industry, and academia are welcome.
