An SEI Affiliate Opportunity
Team: Software Engineering Information Repository (SEIR),
Software Engineering Measurement and Analysis Team
Team leader: Dave Zubrow
Summary of Opportunity
The Software Engineering Information Repository (SEIR) is a forum for software engineers in the field-from government, industry, and academia-to exchange lessons learned, pose questions, and submit materials that might help others to adopt improvement approaches. The site consists of implementation data including experience reports, case studies, return-on-investment information, and tips for encouraging upper management to adopt improvement efforts.
The growth and longevity of the SEIR depends upon the exchange and contribution of information from the software engineering community. Since its launch in 1998 with a mere 104 users and minimal site content, the SEIR has grown to become one of the most highly visited areas of SEI-operated Web sites. Its nearly 20,000 members represent more than 9,600 organizations in 97 countries, and it includes more than 10,300 Web pages and 440 documents.
The SEIR team is looking for an affiliate to help create a new information domain or to improve and enhance the repository's functionality and operating processes. Currently, the SEIR includes six information domains:
- Capability Maturity Model® (CMM®) for Software (SW-CMM)
- CMM IntegrationSM (CMMI®
- Measurement and Metrics
- People CMM
- Personal Software ProcessSM and Team Software ProcessSM
- Software Risk Management
Results to be Accomplished
We are seeking an affiliate to assist with the content and technical development of the SEIR. The SEIR must continue to increase its content while at the same time reducing the effort required to operate it.
Potential Affiliates Tasks and Responsibilities
The affiliate's tasks and responsibilities could include researching potential new topic areas based on user feedback, working with SEIR members to populate a new information domain, and working with the SEIR Core Team to format, edit, and post new contributions. Specific tasks and responsibilities would be discussed with the SEIR Webmaster and SEMA Team Leader.
