SEI Credentials Program: Certificates Vs. Certification

How is a Certificate Different from a Certification?

The SEI offers both certificate and certification programs. Certificates are awarded after you attend a prearranged series of continuing education courses and serve to recognize your successful completion of an educational process. Certificate programs are a good way to build your skills and generally do not require testing or follow-up training.

Certification is earned after you complete a prearranged series of courses and your knowledge is assessed against a set of industry-relevant standards. Certifications often include on-going requirements that must be met to keep the certification valid. While SEI certifications do not grant you permission to use the intellectual property of the SEI, they do signify that you have been certified by the SEI to have obtained a specific set of skills and knowledge in a particular area. Certification allows you to build your credentials through objective confirmation of your skills.
