Combating cyber security threats from inside and outside the organization

Information has become an essential asset supporting the operation of government and industrial organizations. Those organizations have increasing concerns about protecting information against cyber attacks that stem from criminal intentions or motivations and commercial motivations.

The Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI) enables organizations to improve their cyber security readiness and practice through its focus on the response to, detection of, and protection against cyber attacks from threats inside and outside the organization.

Responding quickly and effectively to cyber attacks

The SEI CERT Division helps organizations build incident response capability and by developing practices and technologies to facilitate rapid resolution of threats.

Detecting signs of cyber intrusion

Knowing when an attacker attempts intrusion is important. Intrusions can cause damage in seconds. Also, it will be nearly impossible to determine later when your sensitive data, systems, and networks had been compromised. Methods and tools from the SEI CERT Division enable organizations to investigate suspicious or unusual cyber occurrences.

Preventing cyber attacks

The SEI CERT Division enhances the defensive ability of organizations in government and industry to protect against cyber attacks—and to limit the damage and scope of attacks that do occur.
