Software Engineering Institute | Carnegie Mellon University

At the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute (SEI), we research long-term problems of considerable complexity to help the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and other government agencies adopt Agile practices, avoid security risks, deliver software-reliant capabilities faster, reduce sustainment costs, strengthen the acquisition workforce, and meet other mission goals.

DoD and government agencies use our support and guidance to implement solutions to improve software acquisition and development and deal with cybersecurity threats. Government and industry organizations work with our experts to devise innovative research and development (R&D) answers for tough problems. Researchers in industry and academia collaborate with us on inquiries into critical challenges.

"The SEI's product is the knowledge we create and capture, apply to real-world problems, and distribute to the global software and systems engineering community."
— Paul Nielsen, Director and CEO
