The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) requests that the first time a Carnegie Mellon service mark, trademark, or registered mark appears in your document, it is followed by these superscripted marks respectively: SM, TM, or ®.
See the list below to determine which symbol is appropriate. If you are using a text editor that does not support these symbols and/or superscripted text, the symbols should be replaced by (SM), (TM), or an asterisk.
Include a footnote at the bottom of the page where the mark first appears (or at the end of the file if your text editor does not divide text into pages). Multiple marks may be combined in the same footnote as long as they are associated with the same symbol. Marks that use different symbols must be listed in separate footnotes.
