65 Recommendations for Testing in Service-Oriented Environments

  •  Establish clear lines of testing and customer support responsibility that allow for distinctions between the roles of service developers and service providers.
  • Develop a strategy for using runtime monitoring to supplement testing and capture data for analysis and improvement of the SOA infrastructures and web services.

These are just 2 of the 65 recommendations in an SEI report on testing the infrastructure, services, and end-to-end threads found in a service-oriented architecture (SOA) environments. The report discusses testing challenges (the implications of a lack of tools to automate testing of composites of individual web services, for instance) and details what to do in testing service-oriented system functionality and important qualities such as interoperability and security.
