AUDIENCE
This training provides an opportunity for experienced trainers and measurement professionals to become SEI-Certified Instructors of the "Improving Process Performance using Six Sigma (IPPSS)" course. To be eligible, participants must have the following skills: extensive instructional experience in training, implementing or developing measurement programs, and basic statistical and problem solving skills, including proficiency with Minitab.
PREREQUISITES
- be sponsored by an SEI Partner organization
- have completed the application process to become a certified IPPSS course instructor, including acceptable completion of course pre-work
- have signed a Code of Professional Conduct for SEI Services document
- have successfully completed an SEI-authorized course offering of IPPSS
- have successfully completed an SEI-authorized course offering of Introduction to CMMI

- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 3, Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2, or Windows Vista (tested on Windows Vista Enterprise, Business, Home Premium, and Home Basic editions)
- Microsoft Excel 2000, 2002 (XP), 2003, or 2007
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (or 3.0 with Windows XP versions or Vista)
- Pentium-equivalent microprocessor (800 MHz or faster)
- at least 512 MB of RAM
- at least 88 MB of hard disk space for .NET Framework 2.0 and another 58 MB for .NET Framework 3.0 (if not already installed) and at least 400 MB for additional applications to be installed. (Note: Each of the first two components listed requires approximately twice the given amount of disk space during installation.)
- CD-ROM drive or USB port
- video graphics adapter and monitor with at least 1024x768 resolution
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 or later
TOPICS
- general approach used in the design of the IPPSS course
- content overview of each module in the IPPSS course
- module by module review of concepts or issues to be emphasized while teaching
- introduction to IPPSS course exercises
- guidance for IPPSS course exercises, including team coaching, evaluation, and feedback
- working familiarity with Minitab statistical software package
OBJECTIVES
- present any IPPSS course module to a class of students, demonstrating content expertise by adhering to the documented instructional guidance
- Provide critiques of IPPSS course exercise results by giving feedback that aligns with and reinforces specific relevant concepts that are integral to the course approach, and that highlights both correct and incorrect application of the DMAIC method within the specific context of the student exercises
- Respond to methodology questions from IPPSS course students
COURSE WORK Pre-work is assigned when participants apply for the course and must be satisfactorily completed prior to registering. Preparation outside of class is required in terms of revisiting experience and examples related to the major topics taught within IPPSS.
Course Materials Participants will receive
- an IPPSS instructor workbook, including instructor notes, which will be used during the Instructor Training to document additional instructor points and examples shared during the Instructor Training class
- Pocket Guide to Advanced Six Sigma Tools
Before attending this course, each candidate instructor must acquire their own copy of Minitab software (latest version) and bring the software installed on their laptop for use in this class.

The last day includes time for individual face-to-face feedback sessions.
