PREREQUISITES
There are no prerequisites for this course.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Students must bring a laptop computer equipped with
- Microsoft Windows OS
- Microsoft Office 2003

- an overview of the team leader's responsibilities and ways to lead and motivate the team
- an overview of the TSP and how it works to build self-directed high-performance teams
- team management in a TSP team, the role of the team leader
- the TSP launch process, how the team builds its work plan and negotiates its commitment with management
- understanding process data at the team level, coaching the team based on process data
- how the team tracks status against its plan and maintains its commitment to management
- maintaining quality during software development
- how the team measures and manages development quality, and produces quality products
- how to report team status to management
- how to handle various leadership challenges
OBJECTIVES
Successful completion of this course enables participants to
- describe the basic concepts on which the TSP is built
- describe how the TSP can effectively improve software development activities and provide positive motivation for engineers and project teams
- provide a working-level understanding of how individuals and teams apply the TSP
- demonstrate key behaviors for successfully leading and coaching TSP teams
Course Work After registering for the Leading a Development Team course, attendees receive copies of the books Winning with Software: An Executive Strategy (ISBN 0-201-77639-1) and TSP SM: Leading a Development Team (ISBN: 0-201-54610-8) by Watts Humphrey. An accompanying letter details the pre-course reading assignments. It is important that attendees read the assigned chapters are read before coming to the course.
Course Materials Students receive a course notebook during the course.
