Michael R. Nichol

Michael R. Nicol is the Technical Advisor for Embedded Computer Systems Software, in the Engineering Directorate of the Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC), Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He serves as the Air Force technical authority for embedded computer systems software for aeronautical systems. His responsibilities include exploiting the state-of-the-art in embedded computer systems software engineering technology; championing the development and application of embedded software engineering processes to specific weapons systems; and consulting with ASC, AFMC, and Air Force/OSD leadership on software policy, practices, and technical studies/evaluations to ensure the most cost-effective solutions.

Nicol entered federal service in 1975, starting with the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory. In 1980 he joined the Aeronautical Systems Division. He has held a variety of engineering positions within the Engineering Directorate and system program offices, including 8 years in the B-2 SPO. He completed his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Ohio Northern University in 1975. He earned a Master of science in computer systems from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1982.
