September 16–18, 2009 | Osaka, Japan

First SEPG Asia-Pacific Conference a Success

The inaugural SEPG Asia-Pacific conference held September 16-18 was a great success, with delegates from throughout the Asia-Pacific region coming together for three days of learning, networking, and skill building in Osaka, Japan.

Industry thought leaders inspired delegates with their keynote sessions. Keynote speakers included Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chief operating officer and executive director of Tata Consultancy Services Limited; Yoshiaki Kushiki, corporate advisor of Panasonic Corporation; Paul Nielsen, the director and chief operating officer of the Software Engineering Institute; and Mario Tokoro, president and CEO of Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc.

The first conference day was composed of full-day tutorials. The second and third days were filled with presentations. Session topics included the new CMMI for Services model; People CMM; CMMI Version 1.3; TSP; PSP; Automotive SPICE and CMMI; integrating multiple models; organizational development and managing change; controlling appraisals; getting useful SCAMPI results from improvement-driven appraisals; getting high performance from high maturity; measurement and analysis; building an effective business case for process improvement programs; and case studies and experience reports.

While there were many opportunities for networking during breaks and meals, the highlight was the Gala Reception. Held in the top floor of the conference hotel and venue, delegates enjoyed panoramic views of Osaka while sampling many different appetizers from both Western and Japanese cuisines.
