Issued from the Academia Politécnica, which was founded in 1837, the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP) is a leading institution of international reputation whose achievements in research and teaching have established itself in the forefront of the universities of engineering.
The ITIJ, Institute of the Information Technologies in Justice, Public Office, is an agency of the Portuguese Ministry of Justice, whose mission is to ensure the study, design, conduct, execution, and evaluation of plans for computerization and technological upgrading of agencies and services integrated in the area of Portuguese justice. ITIJ is responsible for, among other tasks: managing the communications network of justice (with about 30,000 users), developing, managing, maintaining, and updating information systems of justice; serving as an entity with powers of electronic certification of the Portuguese Ministry of Justice (public key infrastructure for Justice); coordinating, advising, and following the development of investment projects in the field of computing and communications, organisms, departments, and agencies of the Ministry of Justice; and providing services to departments of the justice sector, to other government departments, public or private business entities, based on appropriate legal instruments that provide, namely, the levels of performance and counterparts.
