The SEI’s team of experts working on the smart grid challenge come from a variety of disciplines across the SEI. This interdisciplinary approach is a necessary competency for dealing with a complex problem like the smart grid. This page highlights the areas that are uniquely positioned to impact the smart grid transformation.
The SEI’s Process and Performance Improvement area of work focuses on improving management practices to help organizations transform their performance. This area is the home of the CMMI family of process improvement models, as well as the People CMM and other global de facto process improvement standards.
CERT is the home of the SEI’s work in securing a networked world and making networked systems more resilient. CERT has been actively working for years on improving the security, survivability, and resiliency of software and systems that are deployed in various operational aspects of the electric power grid.
The SEI’s work in Systems Interoperability and Ultra-Large Scale Systems addresses the challenges of interdependent webs of software-intensive systems and their people, policies, cultures, and economies. These challenges are at the heart of the smart grid transformation.
