Key responsibilities
As the PID Director John is the senior manager responsible for enterprise business development across the Department of Defense and amongst other institutions, both government and commercial, which make up SEI's diverse client base.
Professional Background
John transitioned from the U.S. Navy as a Captain in 1997 after serving in assignments worldwide for over 23 years. In addition to multiple operational tours as a qualified surface warfare and naval flight officer, he served in a series of research, development, and acquisition assignments including the Commanding Officer of an overseas aviation depot and as a Major Program Manager at the Naval Air Systems Command for the Tomahawk Cruise Missile as well as for Precision Targeting and Mission Planning Systems. From 1997 until joining the SEI in 2007, John worked at SRI International, formerly the Stanford Research Institute, one of the worlds largest independent not-for-profit research institutes. At SRI John initially worked at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as a program manager and system engineer for the Global Hawk unattended aerial vehicle (UAV). Following that assignment he relocated to SRI headquarters in Silicon Valley where he served as the Director of Penetrating Radar Systems, Director of the Radio Science and Engineering Division, and as the Director of the Engineering Systems Division. His final four years at SRI were in the DC area where he was the Director of Washington Operations and of Federal Business Development (FBD).
