SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training

The SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training (SLAT) consists of three training components:

  1. Computer-based training class
  2. Out of classroom assignment
  3. Five-day in classroom instruction and mentoring

This course is designed for those interested in becoming certified as SCAMPI Lead Appraisers for the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) v1.3. The SCAMPI method is a diagnostic tool that supports, enables, and encourages an organization's commitment to process improvement. The method helps organizations gain insight into their process capability or organizational maturity by identifying process strengths and weaknesses as related to the practices of one or more appraisal reference models (e.g., CMMI). The SCAMPI method can also support other reference models. SCAMPI A V1.3 is the method of choice for benchmarking and is therefore defined by the Appraisal Requirements for CMMI (ARC) V1.3 as a Class A appraisal method.

Computer-based training
The first component of SLAT training is an extensive computer-based training class which is a prerequisite to both the out of classroom assignment as well as the in-class instruction and mentoring component. Skills and knowledge acquired from the computer-based training will help students to better prepare their out of classroom assignments. This training will check student knowledge of concepts to be reviewed in the classroom and their performance will help instructors identify areas to emphasize during in-class instruction.

Out of class assignment
Students will be provided with an out of class assignment. Assignments are to be completed in advance of the in-class instruction and will serve as input to the hands-on exercises introduced in the classroom. These assignments are designed to develop important skills and capabilities.

Five-day in classroom instruction and mentoring
This five-day course is designed to bring student skills and capabilities into a group setting where they can share ideas and experiences with other students. Instructors mentor and advise students as they prepare and revise assignments. Participation is essential to the success of the in classroom component of SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training.

A final exam, work assignments, and class participation determine if participants successfully complete the course. After attending the course, participants will qualify as candidate SCAMPI Lead Appraisers. To become certified, candidate SCAMPI Lead Appraisers must first pass the SCAMPI Certification exam. Candidate SCAMPI Lead Appraisers must then be observed by a qualified observing Lead Appraiser and receive a satisfactory recommendation.

This course is a prerequisite for becoming an SEI-Certified SCAMPI Lead Appraiser.
