This two-day course provides an overview of the CERT-RMM Capability Appraisal Method, which addresses the application of the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) for the CERT® Resilience Management Model (CERT-RMM) v1.1. Individuals seeking to become SEI-certified CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers must complete this course as part of their certification requirements. Please note that this course is solely for CMMI Lead Appraisers who are looking to extend their process improvement capabilities into the operations phase of the life cycle.
The CERT-RMM Capability Appraisal Method (CAM) is a diagnostic tool that can be used to determine an organization's capability for managing operational resilience. It is a tailored version of the SCAMPI method that addresses the unique challenges of appraising capability using CERT-RMM in the operations phase of the life cycle. Because CERT-RMM has only a continuous representation, the method focuses on helping organizations gain insight into their process capability by identifying process strengths and weaknesses as related to the best practices contained in CERT-RMM.
The CERT-RMM CAM Appraisal Boot Camp (ABC) gives students the foundational knowledge they need to apply their SCAMPI experience in a CERT-RMM context. The Appraisal Boot Camp addresses important decisions about scoping an appraisal ("organizational unit" vs. "project"), characterizing practices, and deriving capability levels. It also addresses appraisal considerations for unique CERT-RMM model attributes such as using Targeted Improvement Roadmaps and in interpreting process areas in categories such as Enterprise Management and Operations, both of which do not exist in CMMI models. In addition, the course provides students insight into how to properly interpret process areas in CERT-RMM that have been sourced from CMMI models, such as Resilience Requirements Development and Organizational Training and Awareness.
The course is composed of lectures and class exercises with ample opportunity for participant questions and discussions. Course attendance and assignments will be graded to determine if class participants have successfully completed the course. After attending the course, participants will qualify as candidate CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers. To become certified, candidate CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers will need to meet the qualification and certification criteria as defined in the CERT-RMM appraisal certification program. CERT-RMM Lead Appraisers may provide appraisal services for their own organization or other organizations and deliver appraisal training to appraisal teams.
This course is a prerequisite for becoming an SEI-certified CERT-RMM Lead Appraiser.
Students must already hold CMMI Lead Appraiser credentials in good standing. In addition, students must have successfully completed the Introduction to CERT-RMM course.
