What’s on your mind – ask the experts? – Members of SEI TSP Team

Have a question about the PSP or TSP you always wanted to ask, but haven’t? Need advice about how to handle a situation? Need help? If you have a question we have the answer. “It depends."

So join us as the SEI tries to answer the tough questions posed by you and your peers. The SEI will be collecting questions (form ASK) from TSP Symposium Attendees. Questions will be accepted until 6:00 pm on Monday, September 21, 2009, which is the first day of the TSP Symposium. The SEI will then review all questions submitted and try to address the most common and/or difficult questions posed by you the attendees.

How Do You Bring Process Discipline to a Team? – Anita Carleton & Tim Chick

...by establishing and executing team roles for sharing responsibilities for managing the project. When team members execute their role responsibilities, follow defined processes, and meet their goals and commitments, the team performs efficiently and effectively.

Join us for a lively session as we strategize on how your teams can make the most out of the role management functions. Come prepared to discuss how role management works on your teams or come prepared with your questions. We have some of our own questions to get the discussion started:

  1. When a role manager function is working well or not working well, why or why not?
  2. Do the role managers execute their roles as defined in the TSP Role Manager scripts or has your team added or deleted functions for one or more of the roles?
  3. Has your team added any customized role manager functions? Did the team generate a TSP role script for the new manager position?
  4. What are your teams doing differently with TSP roles today than when you first started using TSP?

Don’t miss this opportunity to share your insights and problems with fellow TSP practitioners about what makes for successful role management on TSP teams.

Coach versus Team Lead – What is the difference? – Tim Chick & Jim McHale

Have you ever been asked “What is the difference between the coach and the team leader?” or “Why do we need a coach?” Can you articulate the answer? In TSP the objectives of a coach and team leader are different, but complementary. The TSP Coach’s objective “is to provide the required skill, discipline, insight and even outside perspective teams and individuals require to be successful using tailored approaches to meet the needs of the team and its members within a firm set of principles.” The TSP Team Leader’s objectives are to ensure that the project is successful, build a motivated and effective team, fully utilize the talents and abilities of all team members, and keep management informed. Join us as we discuss how these two important roles really are two sides of the same coin, both are focusing on success from different perspectives.
