Mission

The mission of the Technology Transition Practices (TTP) group is to identify, develop, promote, and apply practices that result in more rapid, affordable, and sustained transition of innovative software engineering technologies. TTP's approach manages the transition life cycle concurrently with the technology development life cycle. Our approach builds "transitionability" into the technology as it evolves, shortening the overall life cycle from early demonstrations to routine use. Technology developers see how their technology management decisions regarding technology readiness, adopter fit, value networks, transition roles, and other components of transition management impact the overall technology life cycle and lead to factors that impact the speed, cost, and effectiveness of transition. TTP's work benefits the SEI, research and development organizations such as the Department of Defense (DoD) software and technology community, and industry R&D programs, as well as other organizations seeking to transition new software engineering technologies into practice.

Management Framework
TTP is evolving a framework for transition management called Technology Start-up, Readiness and Fit, Adaptation and Planning, Implementation and Monitoring, and Learning and Adjusting (TRAIL), which incorporates all of the above fundamentals. If you are interested in collaborating with the SEI in the evolution or application of this framework, please contact ttp-group@sei.cmu.edu
