Director, CERT Cybersecurity Division
Edward H. (Ned) Deets, III is director of the SEI CERT Cybersecurity Division. Deets joined the SEI in 2012 as CERT deputy director, Defense Cyber Solutions. In 2013 he was named the founding director of the SEI’s Software Solutions Division.
The CERT Cybersecurity Division, founded in 1988, is the world’s leading trusted authority dedicated to improving the security and resilience of computer systems and networks and a national asset in the field of cybersecurity.
Deets retired with the rank of rear admiral after 32 years of service in the Navy. His final command tour was the Naval Network Warfare Command in Virginia Beach, VA, where he oversaw Navy network, space, communications, cryptologic, and cyber operations. During his career he earned designation as a cryptologic officer and information warfare officer. He served aboard numerous ships and shore commands in multiple theaters of operation integrating information, intelligence, and cyber capabilities. He was a leader in the evolution of cyber into a primary Navy warfare area.
He is a graduate of Duke University and a distinguished graduate of the National War College. He was commissioned through the Duke NROTC program.
