CERT Division Research Supports National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

September 30, 2020—The CERT Division of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) this week announced its efforts to support National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). In the month of October, the CERT Division will release new technical work and blog posts as well as hold a webcast.
Every October since 2004, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cybersecurity Alliance have engaged with government, industry, and academia to spread the word about safety and security online. The theme of this year’s NCSAM is “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.”
The CERT Division has been a leader in cybersecurity research since its founding in 1988. This year, the CERT Division will help raise cybersecurity awareness with the webcast “Threats for Machine Learning” on October 6. The free event features Mark Sherman, technical director of the CERT Cybersecurity Foundations directorate, discussing where machine learning applications can be attacked, the means for such attacks, and some mitigations against them.
Technical releases from the CERT Division in October will include information on Artificial Intelligence Network Defense Evaluation (AIDE) and a white paper on ransomware. Upcoming CERT blog posts will also cover ransomware, as well as high-value-asset protection, network segmentation, and .NET framework weaponization. Subscribe to the SEI Bulletin newsletter to hear about these and all of the SEI’s latest releases.
Recent CERT Division work includes an update of the guide Network Traffic Analysis with SiLK and support of the 2020 President’s Cup Cybersecurity Competition. Insider threat and cybersecurity oversight for executives are the subjects of the SEI’s live-online training courses, held throughout the year.
