CMMI for Services Project
The CMMI Project has an effort under way to develop a CMMI for Services model. With the approval of the CMMI Steering Group, and endorsement from the NDIA Systems Engineering Division, the CMMI for Services team began work in late 2005. The purpose of the CMMI for Services model is to let the current users of CMMI get the same results and benefits in their service deployment efforts that they currently enjoy in their development efforts.
Currently, some service organizations do apply CMMI to their work, but this requires significant interpretation by both the organizations and their appraisers. A CMMI for Services model will improve consistency and payoff for service organizations because it will include service deployment practices that are not covered by the current CMMI model.
The team is presently being led by Northrop Grumman, and it includes participants from the SEI, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, SAIC, SRA, and Systems and Software Consortium (SSCI).
The following Web page provides more information on this project: https://bscw.sei.cmu.edu/pub/bscw.cgi/0/424939. The CMMI for Services team will be adding a mechanism to this page that will allow you to sign up for email notifications about the project's progress and allow you to let us know if you would like to be considered a model reviewer or if your organization would like to be considered for piloting of the model.
