Privacy in the Era of Big Data

This is an introduction to some of the difficulties with anonymizing and privatizing data so that it can be shared or stored safely. April Galyardt, SEI Machine Learning Research Scientist, presents a few ways in which it’s exceptionally easy to recover sensitive information from data that has been “anonymized”. Lastly, she talks about differential privacy as one method for getting some guarantees that sensitive information will not be leaked.
