Eric Ferguson
Software Engineering Institute
Eric Ferguson is a Senior Engineer at the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute (CMU SEI) on the Software Solutions Division (SSD) team. His focus areas include planning and modernization of enterprise IT systems, IT/software workforce development and training, IT portfolio governance, and software assurance.
Since joining SEI in 2013, he's been a member and leader of teams performing engineering process reviews and technical analyses of large-scale IT/software systems. He has also led training and process improvement efforts to expand modern systems acquisition competencies at federal and state government agencies.
Eric is a retired U.S. Air Force (USAF) officer who specialized in acquisition, operation, and modernization of aerospace defense, enterprise IT infrastructure, and cybersecurity capabilities. He served in a variety of technical and leadership roles, including as a software engineer and team lead for ground- and space-based strategic early warning systems; as a squadron commander for base-level and regional/global communications; and as an operational planner and leader of global network defense operations. He served in leadership roles on several USAF and joint military staffs, including the USAF’s European and Pentagon headquarters; the Office of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Director; the Joint Chiefs of Staff J-6 and J-8 Directorates; and the Office of the Department of Defense Chief Information Officer (DoD CIO).
