Registration Opens for 2021 SEI Research Review
Article

Registration is now open for the 2021 Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Research Review, a free virtual event scheduled to take place daily from November 8-10. This is the first time the event is open to registration by the general public. Each day’s events will start at 11:00 a.m. and end no later than 4:00 p.m. EST.

The theme for the 2021 SEI Research Review is “inspire. integrate. innovate. the collaboration effect.”

Collaboration, an essential characteristic of the SEI as a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), lies at the heart of everything participants will see and hear at this event. It is the thread that ties together the SEI’s work in research and development, piloting, transitioning, and policy input for the benefit of sponsor and customers.

“Our national defense depends on capabilities delivered securely, affordably, and on time through sound software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence engineering principles,” said Tom Longstaff, SEI chief technology officer. “Our aim in this event is to review SEI research projects that advance the state of the art and that will transition into practice in collaboration with our sponsors and partners in government agencies, industry, and other research organizations.”

SEI researchers will provide in-depth discussions of recent, high-impact, DoD-line-funded fundamental research that improves the state of the art and practice in software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI) engineering. Each session will present tools, techniques, and processes produced through collaboration and designed to advance solutions to the four big software challenges for national defense and security: capability, timeliness, affordability, and trustworthiness. Attendees will hear about the positive impact of those technologies on the DoD mission and will also learn how to engage in and benefit from collaboration with SEI researchers. Panel discussions, comprising SEI researchers and collaborators from inside and outside the SEI, will explore how to more rapidly integrate research advancements into work contexts.

While the 2021 Research Review is a free event, registration is required to take full advantage of participation in panel discussions and presentations. Visit http://www.sei.cmu.edu/go/research-review/ for more information or to register.
