Professional Background

Dr. Scott McMillan joined the SEI Emerging Technology Center in May 2013 as a Senior Software Developer.  Dr. McMillan brings with him over 20 years of experience in high-performance computing across a wide range of application areas including scientific computing, 2D/3D geographic information systems (GIS), and very large-scale database systems.  He also has expertise in the C++ programming language, object-oriented software design, and guiding the entire software development lifecycle using Agile methodologies.

Dr. McMillan comes to us from Raytheon where he contributed to a wide range of projects from cyber security, wireless communications, embedded systems and Windows device driver research. Prior to that Dr. McMillan spent over nine years at General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems (GDAIS) where he led the successful design and development of their fourth generation very large-scale database system.  During this period, Dr. McMillan performed research and development of parallel frameworks for a configurable extract/transform/load (ETL) system and advanced graph analytic query algorithms.  The success of this project earned Dr. McMillan the GDAIS Engineering Excellence Award in 2009.

Dr. McMillan has published in the fields of dynamic simulation, parallel algorithms, high-performance computing, virtual reality, and autonomous systems.

In his spare time, you will find Dr. McMillan engaging in adventures with his family.
